Beginning with Motel Chronicles in 1982, Shepard—the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, author, screenwriter, actor, and director—spent time crisscrossing the deserts of New Mexico, living in hotels and on the road, writing about life in the southwest.

Twenty years earlier, the acclaimed artist Ed Ruscha traversed the same territory, creating ghostly images of New Mexico gas stations immortalized in his seminal book Twentysix Gasoline Stations

This special volume pairs the artwork of these two restless storytellers, combining their considerable talents to paint a fascinating portrait of New Mexico.

I Met the Walrus

by Jerry Levitan

Imagine you're the world's biggest Beatles fan and you've just snuck into John Lennon's hotel room. But instead of being thrown out, inexplicably you're invited to spend the day with your idol. That's exactly what happened to fourteen-year-old Jerry Levitan in 1969. After hearing John was in Toronto for a "bed in," Jerry tracked him down at the King Edward Hotel and convinced the world's biggest rock star to sit down for an exclusive forty-minute interview. John talked candidly about war, politics, the scandalous Two Virgins album, and the supposed subliminal messages in his music.

I Met the Walrus is a joyous retelling of Jerry's once-in-a-lifetime adventure, illustrated by acclaimed artist James Braithwaite and featuring never-before-seen photographs of John and Yoko. Also included in the book is Jerry's memorabilia from that day—notes from John and Yoko, the secret code to contact him, John's doodles, and much more.

Inspired by the Academy Award-nominated film of the same name, I Met the Walrus is a must-have for Lennon fans around the world, as well as anyone who has ever dreamed of meeting a hero.

Mirko Ilic: Fist to Face

by Dejan Krsic

I first saw and fell in love with the Serbian version of this book, written by Dejan Krsic, before I had ever heard of designer Mirko Ilic. When I became editor of Print magazine and was looking for interesting books to launch Print Publishing with, I thought an updated, English translation of Mirko’s work would be a great addition to the list. Working with Mirko and Dejan, we translated and updated the original book, adding years of recent work by Mirko and his team.

This acclaimed visual biography of one of the most prolific and distinguished designers of the last half century traces Ilic's formative years as a precocious youth in Yugoslavia during the Communist-bloc era; his early illustrations for comic books and magazines; and his eventual move to the United States, where he quickly achieved notoriety as the art director of Time magazine's international edition and The New York Times' op-ed pages. As a designer, Ilic has constantly pushed his craft to new limits, experimenting and reinventing himself at every turn.

Listen to Mirko Ilic and me discuss the making of Fist to Face with Debbie Millman on her podcast, Design Matters here.

Throughout his remarkable career, Muhammad Ali’s courage, skill, accomplishments, brashness, and beauty made him one of the most famous of all public figures: someone who truly had to be seen to be believed.
